BARNACLES on FISTRAL
Does Barnacle distribution change in relation to height on the rocky shore?

A profile of the line covered by the transect at Fistral beach was created using Excel (Figure 4).

Figure 4 Slope transect of Fistral beach survey.
Barnacles appear to be the most abundant organisms and they are at their most abundant at a height of 3m. Limpet density is much less in general than the barnacles and they have a slight peak in abundance just at the 2.5m height. Fucoids were also at their most abundant at the 2.5m height but they were a lot less abundant than the barnacles and slightly more abundant than the limpets (Figure 5)

Figure 5 Distribution of fucoids, limpets and barnacles in relation height on shore.
Barnacle distribution and abundance is greatest at just below the 100m from low water mark, while limpet distribution is less abundant but at its greatest at around 80m. Fucoid distribution occurs at its most abundant at around the 70m mark. (Figure 6)
